Nigeria produces 3.92MT of sweet potato and is the largest producer in SSA and 2nd in the world. It is grown mainly in the North Central state with Plateau state being the major producer. It has limited export potential for now.
The widely anticipated increase in excise duty is now effective June 4, 2018. The average price increase is 6%. Due to the relative price elasticity of demand for alcohol products, the manufacturers are likely to absorb the tax and suffer a decline in income.
