THE UNITY BANK DIGEST – JULY 19, 2023

Dear Subscriber,

Focus- The key to accomplishment

It is not usual to drift off while working, especially with the numerous lures present in today’s digital age. On days when these interruptions become overwhelming, it is important to remember one of Daniel Goleman’s wise sayings: “One way to boost our willpower and focus is to manage our distractions instead of letting them manage us”.

Staying focused is crucial for productivity and meeting deadlines in the workplace. However, it can be challenging to concentrate solely on our daily tasks with various competing priorities. Setting clear goals and breaking them down into smaller tasks can help keep us attentive at work by providing a sense of direction and accomplishment. In the lifestyle section of this Unity Bank digest, we highlight some ways to improve our focus while working.

Businesses are resilient in Nigeria

According to the latest Stanbic IBTC PMI report, business activities in Nigeria’s private sector remained above the 50-point expansion benchmark (53.2 points in June) despite higher production and transportation costs. Official inflation data from the NBS puts headline inflation at 22.79% in June. Meanwhile, the World Bank and the Bank of America have forecast an increase in Nigeria’s inflation rate to 25% and 30%, respectively, by the end of the year. Heightened inflationary pressures, fuelled by the 23.4% hike in petrol price to N617/litre from N500/litre in the previous month, will negatively impact businesses in the near term as profit margins decline.
