Dear Subscriber,

Communication is key to building strong connections

While people would prefer to spend most of their time with family and friends, we often find our colleagues to be our primary companions during the weekdays. Due to the significant amount of time we spend collaborating and interacting in the workplace, seamless communication with colleagues becomes essential for improving productivity and creating healthy relationships. As Mattie Stepanek, an award-winning peace ambassador, eloquently said, “When there is teamwork, communication, and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” In the lifestyle section of this Unity Bank digest, we provide valuable tips to maintain effective communication in the workplace.

A hungry man is an angry man!

Nigeria’s misery index rose by 8.07% to 56.12% in June 2023, signaling worsening economic conditions in the country. The president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recently declared a national emergency on food security in the country despite the country’s vast arable farmland of 70.8million hectares, proving that indeed Nigerians are hungry and broke. Furthermore, the worsening state of insecurity, especially in food-producing states, is raising the risk of a food security crisis.

However, in his speech on July 31, President Tinubu announced the disbursement plan for the ₦500bn palliatives, which includes the ₦200bn agricultural intervention and the provision of 225,000 metric tons of fertilizer for farmers. This initiative, intended to support farmers, would improve the food supply in the country and, in turn, taper prices. Notable is that these interventions may not have an immediate impact due to factors like crop growth cycles, technology adoption, and learning curves.

In this edition of the Unity Bank Digest, we analyze these economic issues, including lifestyle and entertainment stories, for your reading pleasure.
