FDC COMMODITY UPDATE – AUGUST 08, 2019

Yam is a widely consumed staple in Nigeria. The country is the second largest producer of yams and tubers in the world (111.64million tonnes) coming next to China. Nigeria has faced serious challenges lifting its production to a level of global competitiveness. It is expected that with the advent of the AfCFTA and in response to CBN’s incentives including the anchor borrowers’ programme, we will see Nigeria’s production of yam and possible exports become a major source of employment and growth.
