FDC COMMODITY UPDATE AUGUST 07, 2025

Dear Subscriber,

Dangote Refinery receives 4000 new CNG trucks

Dangote Refinery has acquired 4,000 new CNG trucks worth N720bn to begin direct fuel distribution to filling stations and bulk buyers nationwide from August 15. This strategic move aims to remove logistics costs for marketers, enhance supply efficiency, and potentially reduce pump prices. Ultimately, it is expected to promote uniform pricing of refined petroleum products across Nigeria.

The price of cocoa declined by 36%

Cocoa prices plunged by 36% to $8,096/mt in July 2025 from a record high of $12,565/mt in December 2024. The decline is driven by weaker industrial demand and increase in cocoa production in the 2025/26 season, according to Ghana’s COCOBOD. Prices are expected to remain bearish in the near term, potentially reducing Nigeria’s cocoa export earnings.

FDC’s Manager, Dumebi Oluwole, and analyst, Toju Meggison, discussed these and other burning economic issues on Channels TV Business Morning and Business Incorporated programmes respectively.
