FDC COMMODITY UPDATE – OCTOBER 17, 2019

Dear Subscriber,

Lettuce is a leafy vegetable that is rich in vitamins and minerals but it is also highly perishable with a short shelf life.

Nigerian consumption of the commodity is huge and growing, mainly for its nutritive benefits. However, Nigeria remains a fringe supplier of lettuce, with power supply problems that make storage a major impediment. Global output is approximately 27million tonnes and Nigeria hopes to compete in vegetable cultivation and greenhouses in the near future.

In the slides, these and other issues were discussed on the Channels TV Business Morning programme today.
