Higher, Higher, Higher!

On October 3, the Federal Government announced a VAT exemption on energy products like cooking gas, fuel, and diesel to boost investment in the oil sector and tackle economic hardship. However, less than a week later, the petrol pump price jumped again by 1.32% to about ₦1,000/liter. This, unfortunately, coincided with frequent national grid outages that intensified consumer’s dependence on fuel-powered generators. In the near term, the hike in the price of petrol is expected to further reduce consumers’ disposable income and contribute to an upward trend in inflation. As of September 2024, Nigeria’s inflation rate increased to 32.70%, up from 32.15% in August.

This edition of the Unity Bank Digest provides a comprehensive analysis of these economic trends and engaging lifestyle and entertainment stories for your reading pleasure.
